Life is Art is Life … performance

Friday September 11 8pm, donations gratefully received

Claire Elizabeth Barratt and Patrick Pierce have created a wonderful month-long installation at the 119 Gallery that features wood and metal sculptures that beg for YOU to play them.

Jon Glancy and Abram Taber were invited to perform as part of the month-long series and have devised a fun, participatory, Cage/Eno inspired composition. Joining Jon and Abram as sound carriers will be Rick Surette, Clinton Degan, Allon Dubler and Ethan Costello.

Claire Elizabeth Barratt will provide movement, Dr T will provide visuals, and YOU, the wonderful audience, will provide the FUN!

Please come and not only see a wonderful installation but be a part of the performance itself!

  1. Everyone received a packet of 15 cards. Every packet started with the same basic instructions but instructions on the 15 cards that followed were different in each packet (with 2 exceptions, see below). No two performers had the same set of instructions. Here’s a sample packet -

    Card 0: When you hear the tone, a ’singing’ bowl struck with a wooden dowel, change your physical location and read the next card in your packet. Please act in a safe way that will not damage the sculptures. Please do not adjust the amplification levels.

    Card 1: Laugh, jump or dance to rid yourself of embarrassment.
    Card 2: Conduct trail maintenance.
    Card 3: Pick a person and help them.
    Card 4: Take a break.
    Card 5: Vocalize.
    Card 6: Conduct.
    Card 7: Be the dirt.
    Card 8: Be generous.
    Card 9: Keep it light.
    Card 10: Campaign,
    Card 11: Pay attention to all the sounds being made in the space, except your own.
    Card 12: Congratulations! You have won the lottery. See Abe or Jon after the show to claim your prize.
    Card 13: Pick a person. React to their actions.
    Card 14: Make it beautiful.
    Card 15: Go to the cave.

    Two cards, Card 5: Vocalize and Card 15: Go to the cave, were the same for everyone.
