2009 started abruptly for the Lowell-based singer/songwriter. After his unexpected departure as the lead man of his first band Avenue A, Mike went back to the basics. The month leading up to 09’ was spent deciding what was going to be his next step. After devoting time to some new material as well as music put on hold during the span of AA, Mike chose to once again pursue his goals of music as a solo performer.
Mike’s music resembles prominent artists such as “John Mayer”, “The Goo Goo Dolls” and “Toad and the Wet Sprocket.” At the young age of 17, his songwriting abilities are far beyond his years. His lyrics envelop issues that all ages can relate to. Within his songs he speaks of topics such as the fear of growing older and the hurt of young love. Mike says, “I’m naturally a person who has a lot of anxiety… My music has always been the confession of my fears.”
In early January, Mike took on the challenge of recording his debut EP. He joined efforts with producer Dennis Carroll of 6media AV (www.6mediaav.com). This release is expected to his best musical endeavor to date. On this EP will be a collection of Mike’s finer material, including some songs performed with his previous backing band Avenue A.
Mike’s future seems bright in 2009. His EP is expected to be released in April. During the interim, he will be playing a line of small shows and piecing together a band to back him.
The tail end of 09’ will include the full band, with the newest member Bill Harmon on bass . Bill is a student at The University of Mass and an accomplished player. The pieces are in place for a very successful year. Be sure to catch the release of Mike’s EP “Don’t Look Back” in April of 2009.
