Jane Boxall plays marimba with zero to eight mallets — she plays percussion with ‘pure fire’ (Virago magazine) and drums with ‘killer technique and inspired musicality’ (Drum! magazine). Born in the UK, Jane completed two degrees in music at the University of York and at the University of Illinois, earning a doctorate (2008) in percussion performance.
Jane is one half of Ricochet piano-marimba duo, one half of Snap-Drag drum duo, one third of Drumshtick — the Vermont Symphony Orchestra percussion trio — and an in-demand freelance drummer and percussionist. Audience members have compared Jane to Cozy Powell, Evelyn Glennie, Zappa marimbist Ruth Underwood, Sheila E., Carl Palmer and (when wielding 8 marimba mallets) an octopus.
Jane plays and endorses Vic Firth sticks and mallets, Coe Percussion marimbas and District Drum Company drums. She is a contributing writer for Tom Tom Magazine.
“Boxall’s playing has a very high standard and her musicality speaks clearly throughout.”
