Ensemble V was founded at Bennington College in 1973 as part of the curriculum of the new Black Music Studies program. It was one of seven ensembles led by teaching faculty of the program founded and led by the late creative innovator and educator, Bill Dixon. Ensemble V began as a group performing the original works of its founder and leader, Arthur Brooks. The work combined elements of composition and improvisation informed by the ability of the participants and the aesthetic directives of its leader. The group had many incarnations over the past thirty years, and has evolved to the present incarnation. The musicians are recognized professionals who have performed nationally and internationally, and have been associated with the ensemble from as little as six to over twenty years. We are proud to present our music to you.
